Who goes there?! Meaning... who... are... you?!

Beresford is a blue rolling gantry crane who works on the mainland.

Biography

Thomas & Friends

When Thomas traveled to the Mainland, he met Beresford. He stopped Thomas on his way to Bridlington Goods Yard, demanded he told him something new and sang Who's Thomas?. Thomas tricked him and passed through underneath him. Later on, Beresford picked Thomas up with his hook and helped him to hide from Hurricane and Frankie after escaping from the Steelworks. This ended up with Beresford befriending him. He also appears at the end of the special when Thomas and James pass by making their way back home to Sodor.

Stories From Sodor

Season 8

When Rosie, Madison, Jacob, and Sierra traveled to the Mainland, Beresford stopped them on their way to the Steelworks. Jacob insisted the four move along as they did not have time to talk, much to the disappointment of Beresford, Rosie, and Madison[1].

Personality

Beresford is usually very lonely having no one to talk to, with engines often passing through with other work. His rather aggressive way of getting to know new engines makes it hard for him to make friends, as shown by him dropping a fishing boat in front of Thomas and slinging him up with his hook in a later encounter. But he is well meaning, though jealous of the freedom engines have to go anywhere.

Basis

Beresford is based on a Stothert & Pitt electric rolling gantry crane. Four examples of this type of crane are preserved at the M Shed museum at Prince's Wharf, Bristol. Merrick and Carter are also members of this design.

Livery

Beresford is painted sky blue with magenta and yellow lining and white hazard stripes.
