This is a behind the scenes subpage for Citrine (KR).
This subpage contains all behind the scenes material relating to said article.

Inspirations[]

Citrine, like all the other gem engines, was originally inspired by Steven Universe. However, Citrine specifically was inspired by Jacobacranmer's realization that his brother's birthstone was the only one to not be featured on the show, despite being mentioned on several occasions.

Basis[]

Citrine, like the other Keystone Railway Quartzes, is based on an LMS Ivatt Class 2MT tank engine developed for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. Unlike her basis, Citrine lacks a sand dome.

Design[]

Citrine's original design was released on 3 August 2017 to coincide with her introduction in the Crystal Island Adventures episode, "A Keystone Trip".

On 18 May 2020, nearly three years after her debut, Citrine was given a redesign, hinting at a possible return to the series.

Citrine's new design featured some differences from her original design. These include:

  • Her paintwork became gold
  • Her lining changed from black to brown
  • Her bufferbeams and footplate changed from black to gold
  • Her wheels changed from yellow to brown
  • The letters "KR" were replaced by her name
  • Her gemstone increased in size
  • She gained gold handrails on her cab and bunker
  • She gained a brown stepladder leading to her cab
  • Her headlamp disappeared
  • Her nose changed shape
  • Her piston rods changed in color from black to silver
  • She gained a tail lamp and front lamp irons, making her more accurate to her basis
  • The number of stripes on her boiler decreased from six to three
