Background Information[]
Television Series[]
Gator is a fictional steam motor tank engine created by Ian McCue and Andrew Brenner.
In 2014, Gator made his debut in the movie, "Tale of the Brave".
Gator is voiced by Clive Mantle in the CGI version of the series on both sides of the Atlantic, respectively.
Gator is based on a Colombian Steam Motor locomotive built by Sentinel Waggon Works Ltd. All four of these locomotives have been scrapped. Gator has been re-gauged from metre gauge to standard gauge.
Behind the Scenes[]
CGI Model[]
In 2009, the series introduced Computer-Generated Imagery (CGI) as a replacement for the show's long-standing live-action models. In 2013, Gator was created from scratch in CGI by Arc Productions for the 2014 movie, Tale of the Brave. The model was "hand-sculpted" in Maya, a 3D animation and modelling software.
In Stories From Sodor[]
In his sole appearance in Stories From Sodor, Gator asked Victor to paint him to look like an alligator for Halloween. This design was based on a piece of merchandise, specifically the MINIS variant from the Creatures theme.
