Jinty and Pug are two LMS tank engines from the Other Railway. They are friends of Percy.

Biography[]

The Railway Series[]

In 1956, Jinty and Pug were loaned from British Railways to run the North Western Railway while Sir Topham Hatt's engines visited the Mainland. Jinty ran on Thomas' Branch Line while Thomas was away and also helped the latter when Thomas had crashed into some buffers.

Jinty and Pug are Percy's friends and he knows them from taking trains to the end of the line and telling the two of them and the other engines stories, such as the time he braved bad weather.

Stories From Sodor[]

Jinty once came to Sodor to help at Tidmouth Harbour. While there, he ran into Charlie, whom he had had an accident with back on the Mainland [1].

He later came back to Sodor with Flying Scotsman and City of Truro. After an argument in which City of Truro advised Jinty not to be a part of, Jinty decided to get even and attached a jet engine to the back of City of Truro. He bumped City of Truro and the jet engine hard in order to get the jet engine's lever to go into the "on" position. Jinty was soon punished and had to work around Tidmouth Sheds for the rest of his stay before going back to the heritage railway, the "Great Central Railway"[2]

Basis[]

Jinty is based on an LMS 3F 0-6-0T and Pug is based on an LMS 0F Kitson 0-4-0ST. Their names originate from their classes' nicknames "Jinty" and "Pug". A total of nine 3F 0-6-0 tank engines survive in preservation whereas sadly, all ten 0F Kitsons were scrapped.

Livery[]

Jinty and Pug are painted in the British Railways (BR) unlined mixed-traffic black livery. Jinty has the BR Cycling Lion crest on his side tanks. It is possible that Pug also has the BRs Cycling Lion crest on the sides of his cab, though the water tower obscures it.
