Speaker Dialogue
The episode opens at Knapford Sheds. Brady, Benjamin, Olivia, Kylie, Murdoch, Marie, Jacob, Kira, Sierra, and Cassie are just waking up when Sir Topham Hatt arrives in his car.
Sir Topham Hatt Jacob, Sierra, Kira, Cassie, today the four of you will drive Dailey, Dawson, Damian, and David at the China Clay Pits.
Jacob Aren't they those annoying quadruplets that argue all the time?
Sir Topham Hatt Yes, they are. How did you know that?
Jacob BoCo warned me about them.
Sir Topham Hatt (irritated) Just go to the Clay Pits and get to work.
Jacob, Sierra, Kira, and Cassie Yes, Sir
The scene changes to the China Clay Pits. The kids just arrived and the quadruplets are waiting in a siding. Fergus and Timothy can be seen shunting empty cars to where Marion is digging. Dailey, Damian, and David smile when they see the kids, but Dawson does not.
Dawson What took you so long?
Dailey Dawson, don't be rude.
Dawson I was just asking. After all, we have work to do.
Dailey That doesn't give you the right to be rude.
David She's right, Dawson?
Dawson Who's side are you on?
David I'm on nobody's side. There are no sides.
Sierra STOP!!!
Everyone stops and stares at Sierra.
Sierra Sorry about yelling, but Jacob hates people, or I guess engines in this case, fighting.
Damian Ohhhhhh...Well, hate to break it to ya, but you may just have to get used to it. It's not like it's gonna stop or anything.
David You're not helping anything.
Dawson Has he ever been helpful in any way, shape, or form?
David Eh, not really. Anyways, Jacob, I apologize on my siblings' behalf. They're... frankly, incompetent.
Jacob (chuckles) That's okay. My friends can be somewhat incompetent, too, especially Cassie.
Cassie Hey!
Dailey, Dawson, and Damian then began yelling at once. Soon, the arguing had started up again.
Jacob (whispering to Sierra) It's going to be a long day.
Sierra Yup.
BoCo is then seen rolling up to them.
BoCo (to the quadruplets) Would you four quit fighting?!
Damian Nope.
Jacob Hello, BoCo.
BoCo Hi, guys. I'm sorry you have to be stuck with them all day.
Jacob It's okay, BoCo. it's not your fault.
BoCo Yes, but I know how much you hate fighting and-
Jacob (interrupts BoCo) BoCo, I'll be fine.
BoCo (skeptically) Alright. You should all be getting back to work, too.
Dawson Got it.
Dailey Sure thing.
David Yeah, sure.
Damian Fine! Whatever!
Dailey (quietly; to Dawson, Damian, and David) Bros, group up.
The four engines group together.
Dailey Look I know we tend to be...
David Dysfunctional?
Dailey Right. But, our arguing is clearly upsetting Jacob. I say we make an effort to get along today!
Damian (groaning) Ugh, effort? I hate effort!
Dawson Why do you have to be so difficult?
Damian I'm not difficult. I'm easy-going and laid back.
David And inept, and incompetent, and-
Damian (interrupting) Stop saying dork words!
David They're not dork words! They're, high-class, intellectual forms of dialect drawn from the knowledge of my mind!
Damian Nothing you say makes sense!
David It would if you had half a brain!
Damian Oh, yeah? Well, if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't be in this mess, Dave!
David (confused) What mess are we in?
Dawson Ugh! You know what? I've had it with you guys. I actually give up on you! I-
Dailey (fed up; shouting) WOULD YOU ALL JUST PUT A DENT IN IT?!?
The camera pans out to show everyone looking at the Quads.
Dailey, Dawson, Damian, and David (uncomfortably) Hi...
The scene changes to show everyone busy at work. Sierra is in Dailey's cab, Kira in Dawson's, Cassie in Damian's, and Jacob in David's.
Narrator Nobody spoke for a long time. Everyone was at work, but every minute seemed like an eternity. Whenever any of the quads would talk, an argument would eventually start up. It soon came to the point where nobody was talking at all! Every single second was awkward and uncomfortable.
Jacob Okay guys, believe it or not, I'd rather you argue, just a little, than not speak at all, because this is getting a little awkward.
Damian Well, if you insist-
David (interrupting) No! If our arguing or severe lack of conversation is making work difficult for you, Jacob, then from this point on, I vow that I... er... we will not argue for a second for the rest of the day!
Dawson Yeah, we probably will.
David No, we... Ugh! (sighs) You guys remember when we first arrived, and we had to stop arguing lest we all get sent away?
Damian Lest?
David (ignoring Damian's comment) We need to act like that now. We all know from experience that when we try, we can get over our differences.
Dailey Dave's right. We need to stop our nonstop quarreling, for our own benefit, and for everyone else's sanity.
Jacob (gratefully) Thanks, you guys.
Damian Don't mention it.
Narrator David was about to say "You didn't do anything," but held his tongue. Instead, he said:
David Alright everybody, let's get back to work.
Narrator So for the rest of the day, the four engines worked hard. They no longer were silently making the situation awkward, but were thankfully making pleasant conversation. Only on occasion would an argument start up, and whenever it did, the engines would shut it down as quickly as they could. By, the end of the day, Jacob had realized that though the quadruplets are sometimes annoying, they are also fun and nice and funny and caring, and now they are all great friends.
