Biography[]
Thomas & Friends[]
Tiger Moth was rude and had a tendency to fly dangerously low on the ground. He once did a dangerous trick above the Fat Controller and his family while they were on holiday. However, he crashed into a haystack a few days later. Harold brought the Fat Controller to the site when they were searching for him after he was reported missing, and the Fat Controller had a stern talk with his pilot, informing him that he and his plane will be grounded when he speaks to his controller about what happened[1].
Tiger Moth was later seen helping to promote "Harry Topper's Fair" at Tidmouth Bay by carrying a large banner behind him[2].
Stories From Sodor:Future[]
More Friendly Faces[]
One day, Skarloey heard Tiger Moth flying overhead, with his engine sputtering. This worried the little engine, and he stayed very alert a few days later. That day, he once again saw Tiger Moth with his engine sputtering until his engine stopped outright, causing Tiger Moth to descend and crash in a field. Skarloey brought Dr. O'Donnell to tend to Tiger Moth's crew. Tiger Moth revealed that his engine had fallen into disrepair because his owner had been to preoccupied with her family's fair. Emma, who had been driving Skarloey, arranged with Jacob and Kevin for Tiger Moth to be repaired. Once he was repaired, he flew with a banner reading "VISIT THE SKARLOEY RAILWAY" as his way of thanking Skarloey[3].
Personality[]
Tiger Moth did dangerous tricks to show off and was very rude, but learned his lesson after crashing into a haystack.
Basis[]
Tiger Moth is loosely based on, and named after, a de Havilland Tiger Moth with a radial engine and tail resembling that of a Sopwith Camel. According to an interview with Robert Gauld-Galliers by SiF, Tiger Moth is actually a Nieuport 17 biplane.
Livery[]
Tiger Moth is painted yellow and red.
Trivia[]
- The red and yellow paint work resembles the Tiger Moth model (and plane for the live-action footage) in the "Thunderbirds" movie "Thunderbird 6". In addition, David Mitton worked for Gerry Anderson on the original programme and subsequent show Anderson created.
- In the Russian dub, he is referred to as Bear Moth.
- Tiger Moth is one of five characters to have been given a face after originally not having one, the other four being Butch, Henrietta, Big Mickey, and Vincenzo.
